PhotoEskwela set to raise fund for restoration of Ifugao rice terraces

by Dan B. Codamon

BANAUE, Ifugao, Jan. 11(PIA) -- ‘PhotoEskwela sa Banaue’, a photography workshop, will be held at the Immaculate Concepcion School here on February 4 and 5 to help raise fund for the restoration of the Ifugao rice terraces damaged by calamities last year.

Governor Eugene Balitang called on all Ifugaos and non-Ifugao volunteers to get their act together for the restoration of the rice terraces piloting this year the Batad Rice Terraces of this municipality, a UNESCO world heritage site greatly damaged by typhoons Mina, Pedring and Quiel last year.

This activity is only one of the string of collaborative activities to open opportunities for all to experience, appreciate and revive the “baddang” (cooperative help) as a way of life of the Ifugao people, said Balitang.

In the PhotoEskwela project, Canon Philippines will be sending 15 top photographers of the country led by highly respected John Chua to teach camera lessons to the participants.

The photographers are waiving their professional fees to teach photography lessons as their share or “baddang” to the rice terraces restoration and part of the registration fees paid by the participants in return of learning the art and wonders of photography will be given to the restoration of the Batad Rice Terraces.

All government offices are enjoined to take part in this endeavor by sending their staff in charge of project or process documentation in their respective offices to hone them on how to capture through pictures their developmental efforts so that they can better document their best practices or programs.

Interested participants are advised to contact the Ifugao Cultural Heriiage Office or fax the number 0743822108 or 3822139 or email baddang_di_immipugo@yahoo.com on or before January 31, 2012.

Balitang encouraged all Ifugaos to join in this project ‘ for after all before other people will help, we should first help ourselves.’(JDP/DBC-PIA CAR,Ifugao)
