2.7 magnitude quake jolts Ilocos Surby Freddie G. Lazaro
SINAIT, Ilocos Sur, Jan. 12 (PIA) -- A 2.7 magnitude tremor jolted the mountainous areas in Ilocos Sur last Wednesday night but no damage was repoted, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) based here.
Phivolcs Researcher Porferio De Peralta saidt the quake occurred at 9:07 p.m. with epicenter located at 4 kilometers southeast of San Emilio, Ilocos Sur with a depth of 25 kilometers but no intensity recorded.
He said that the quake was mild and was tectonic in origin.
Few minutes before the quake, Phivolcs also reported a 2.9 magnitude, which happened at 9:04 p.m. last Wednesday, its epicenter was traced at 22 kilometers southeast of Calayan, Cagayan with a depth of 60 kilometers but no intensity recorded. The quake was also tectonic in origin but didnít cause any intensity at the affected area. (ANL/FGL-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
