La Union PESO grabs “Best Peso” title in Region 1

by Monette H. Herrera

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan 12 (PIA) -- The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of La Union province grabbed the title “Best Peso” in the provincial category in the Regional Search for Best Peso 2011 held late last year in San Luis del Mar, Bauang, La Union.

This yearly activity was meant to assess the performance of the said agency in the delivery of employment service throughout the region, especially addressing the applicant’s qualification-position applied mismatch encountered in the province.

The participants present during the activity were the PESO of the Provincial gov’t of Pangasinan, Rosales and Bani in Pangasinan, and the town of Rosario, La Union and San Fernando City, La Union.

Moreover, Pangasinan PESO, Bani PESO, and Rosario PESO were also cited by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 1 for their exemplary performance.

DOLE 1 Director Henry John Albuena commended the PESO’s strong support to President Noynoy Aquino’s employment platform before conferring the plaques to the winners.

The role of PESOs in promoting quality employment is well enunciated in the President’s 22-point labor and employment agenda, so the DOLE is continuously reinforcing its partnership with PESO, Jalbuena said.

Last year, job placement through the PESO accounted for 77 percent or 35, 437 of those locally employed, Jalbuena further said.

Meanwhile, these participants in the search were selected based primarily on their contribution to the employment goals of the government.

Other criteria include their being recipients of employment-related awards from prestigious institutions and leadership in any organization which contributes to employment. (ANL/MHH PIA 1 La Union with reports from DOLE 1)
