GAD Ordinance to solidify implementation of laws on women and childrenby Michael Vincent D. Cajulao
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Jan. 13 (PIA) -– City 2nd District Councilor Lilia Nuño is now working on the passage of a Gender and Development (GAD) Ordinance before October that will unify and solidify implementation of existing laws and policies on the protection and welfare of women and children.
According to Nuño, the ordinance contains Magna Carta for Women, RA 9262 or Violence against Women and Children, the Anti-Rape law, Anti-Trafficking of Women and Children, and Cyber Sex Law, with the aim of strengthening the implementation of the said laws at the local level.
“This was done to strengthen the implementation of women and children laws in the local level”, she said.
The said ordinance is now scheduled for a public hearing after its first reading approval by the city council.
Nuño said she wanted this ordinance be approved into law before October, in time for the Women’s Month Celebration.
