DepEd-Ifugao disseminates 2012 holidays to schools

LAGAWE, Ifugao,Jan. 13 (PIA)-- The Department of Education (DepEd) Division Office here disseminated Presidential Proclamation No. 295 declaring the regular holidays, special non-working days and special holiday for the year 2012 for the information of all schools.

In a Deped Memorandum sent to all school heads of public and private elementary and secondary schools here, it states that the following regular holidays and special days for the year 2012 shall be observed in the country:

Regular holidays: New Yearís day-January 1; Maundy Thursday-April 5; Good Friday-April 6; Araw ng Kagitingan-April 9; Labor Day-May 1; Independence Day-June 12; National Heroes Day-August 27; Bonifacio Day-November 30; Christmas Day-December 25; Rizal Day-December 30.

For special non-working days: Chinese new year-January 23; Ninoy Aquino Day-August 21; All Saints Day-November 1;

Additional special non-working days: November 2; Last day of the year-December 31.

For special holiday-Edsa Revolution anniversary-February 25.(for schools only)

The proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eidíl Fitr and Eidul Adha shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. To this end the national Commission on Muslim Filipinos shall inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday shall fall.

RA No. 9492 provides that holidays, except those which are religious in nature are moved to the nearest Monday unless modified by law order or proclamation and Eidul Adha shall be celebrated as a national holiday.

The said proclamation signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III explains that the reason why February 25, EDSA revolution is declared a holiday is because the said event restored and ushered political, social and economic reforms in the country and serves as an inspiration to Filipinos everywhere as a nation and as a people.

On the other hand, January 23, Chinese national all over the world will celebrate Spring Festival, which is one of the most revered and festive events celebrated not only in China but also in the Philippines by both Chinese Filipinos and ordinary Filipinos as well; and the joint celebration is a manifestation of our solidarity with our Chinese Filipino brethren who have been part of our lives in many respects as a country and as a people.

Moreover, November 2, All Souls Day, Friday , falls between Nov. 1 (All Saints Day) and Saturday. This is to give full opportunity to every Filipino to properly observe All Saints Day with all its religious fervor which invariably requires them to travel to and from different regions in the country.
