Province, Jan. 13 (PIA) -- The dream of making Paracelis the health center of the eastern part of the province got a big push with the completion of P10 million hospital building funded by the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health(DOH). The new building was turned over to the provincial government last Thursday in a fitting ceremony attended by regional DOH officials, provincial and municipal officials, and hospital officials. DOH- Cordillera Regional Director Myrna Cabotaje, in her message, said that the construction of the facility is in line with the national government’s thrust of bringing the services nearer to the people. She explained that her office merely acted as a conduit of the fund since the amount came from the taxes of the people. She stressed that even with the facility, improvement of health services is best realized with the community’s cooperation. For his part, governor Leonard Mayaen thanked the director for prioritizing the hospital in list of projects. He revealed that the same hospital was a recipient of another building during Cabotaje’s first term as regional director. Cabotaje likewise made known that a new building will soon rise and that some hospital equipments have been readied by her office for transport to Paracelis. Meanwhile, residents and women’s organizations of barangay Butigue expressed their thanks to the governor for his swift action to their project requests and livelihood endeavors. In a consultation with livelihood beneficiaries at Pakak, Butigue the governor announced that he will release additional amount for a women’s group after assessing that the initial fund released had a positive impact to the members. He also addressed community concerns such as the hiring of one teacher for the Pakak Primary School and affording the school building of an electric current supply. In another audience with community people in Butigue central, the governor, obviously encouraged by the enthusiasm of women’s groups livelihood efforts said that he will approve additional livelihood requests should it be submitted to his office. He also positively acted on people’s problems like the concreting of the flooring of the day care center. Butigue barangay chairman Narciso Balnao who also disclosed that his barangay is also a recipient of a road concreting project from the provincial government praised Mayaen for his unexpected show of attention the locality knowing pretty well that the governor got a beating in the barangay during the last elections. “Mayaen neither publicly appeared in our barangay nor promised anything during the last elections. But with the attention we are getting, I hope that people will realize what public service means,” Balnao commented. In both occasions, relief goods, courtesy of senator Manuel Villar, were distributed. The governor said that it was through the cooperation of his office and members of the provincial legislative body particularly board members Johny Lausan, Raul Lapon, and Carino Tamang that made all the services and projects possible.(PIA CAR/AB-Mt.
