Iligan City expresses gratitude to RDC-IXby Franklin P. Gumapon
DIPOLOG CITY, Jan. 13 (PIA) -- For sending relief goods immediately after the flashfloods hit the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan last Dec. 17, the Regional Development Council-IX chaired by Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn T. Uy has received this week a letter of thanks from Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz.
Mayor Cruz expressed his deep appreciation to the efforts and kindness of RDC-IX members for extending their assistance to the victims of the flashfloods which claimed thousands of lives and damaged millions of properties in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities.
RDC-IX through the staff volunteers from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) in Zamboang City immediately sent relief assistance worth P100,000 to Iligan City.
The city government of Dipolog and other civic groups here had also separately sent relief goods for the victims.
It can be recalled that flashfloods wrought by typhoon “Sedong” inundated certain villages in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, leaving thousands dead and missing.
Some of the survivors have lost sanity due to severe depression, according to a report released by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Presently, the survivors are undergoing debriefing sessions to help them get over the trauma resulting from the disaster. (NBE/FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
