PIA Press Release Friday, January 13, 2012 DSWD reports 137,941 active household-beneficiaries of 4Ps in Region 12KORONADAL CITY, Jan. 13 (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in region 12 revealed that a total of 137,941 households benefit from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) as of yearend December, 2011. Julieta Clavel, DSWD 12’s regional program coordinator for 4Ps said these household-beneficiaries are the active recipients of the program who comply with the requirements of class attendance of school aged children - 14 years old and below and medical check-ups of the children and the mother among others. Clavel disclosed that the province of Sultan Kudarat has the highest number of beneficiaries with a total of 45,712, followed by North Cotabao, 45,445; then by Sarangani, 25,206; and by South Cotabato including General Santos City, 21,578. The 4Ps regional program coordinator said that starting January, 2012, additional 55,912 households will benefit from the program. These household-beneficiaries, according to Clavel, include the verified 24,268 from North Cotabato;22,415 from South Cotabato and 5,271 from Sultan Kudarat. The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is a poverty reduction and social development strategy of the national government that provides conditional cash grants to extremely poor households to improve their health, nutrition and education particularly of children aged 0-14.
