PIA Press Release Friday, January 13, 2012 ARMM holds preliminary consultation on peace and security effortsCOTABATO CITY, Jan. 13(PIA) - A preliminary consultation between government law enforcement agencies and the regional autonomous government was conducted Thursday, Jan 12 at the Office of the Regional Governor in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) here. ARMM OIC G Mujiv Hataman said, the activity was in preparation for the reorganization of the Regional Peace and Order Council (ARMM-RPOC) slated anytime this month. Hataman said, he invited AFP officials from the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) based in Davao and Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) in Zamboanga City as well as heads of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the area to enhance and strengthen ties and coordination in the convergence of peace and security efforts. In the preliminary consultation, military and police officials presented reports on the status of the peace and order situation and updates on the implementation of measures and mechanisms advocating unity and support to institutionalize reforms in the ARMM citing the need to stop wanton illegal logging activities, Hataman said. “This is in preparation for the RPOC reorganizational meeting this month to lay down the need for support and cooperation in instituting reforms toward good governance and right now there is urgency to resolve the problem on illegal logging and discuss how to be able to help in the greening program of the government,” Hataman said. Aware of the daunting difficulties, Hataman reiterated his call to all sectors for support in pursuing the directives to him by President Benigno S. Aquino III of ensuring proper implementation of reforms laying down the grounds on good governance, peace and security and socio-economic development in the area. (pbchangco/PIA Cotabato City) |
