PIA Press Release Friday, January 13, 2012 DOLE-Kalinga to pay 185 emergency employment workersby Gigi Dumallig TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 13(PIA)-- Some 185 individuals in the province will be receiving their wages through the Emergency Employment Program (EEP) starting next week, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Kalinga Chief Dr. Avelina Manganip said. The first batch consisting of 138 hired workers from the municipalities of Tabuk (15 individuals), Pinukpuk (15), Rizal (30), Tinglayan (16), Pasil (30), and Lubuagan (32) will be paid on Friday, next week. Beneficiaries from the Balbalan (15) and Tanudan (32) who consist the second batch will be paid later, Manganip said. According to Manganip, the hired workers were among those affected by the previous typhoons. They were hired to help the government rehabilitate and repair damaged infrastructures in their localities while earning to cope with their loses brought about by calamities. The workers she said were employed in various rehabilitation project in typhoon affected communities providing them income for 15 to 30 days work. The temporary employment was implemented in partnership with the concerned local government unit, while the rehabilitated government infrastructure was conducted in coordination with the DPWH and LGU engineering offices. The EEP was schemed to provide short-term jobs for displaced workers due to calamity. By providing them an alternative source of income the government she said hopes to help them continue to provide for their family’s daily needs as they rebuild their livelihoods.
