LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Jan 14 (PIA) -- As one of the interventions to fight malnutrition in the province, the provincial government of Quezon will implement the project ‘gulayan sa paaralan’ once more this year, the provincial agriculture office announced.
Gulayan is a contest that aims to encourage planting of more nutritious vegetables in all elementary public school gardens to produce vegetables for consumption of schoolchildren to fight malnutrition.
Provincial agriculturist Roberto Gajo said they are now preparing for the implementation of the project that would start June 2012. Prizes donated by the provincial government await schools with the most bountiful vegetable garden.
The project, according to Gajo is a collaborative effort of the provincial agriculture office and the Department of Education (DepEd) in coordination with the local government units and other provincial government officials.
“Gulayan is also a priority program to help children turn into healthy kids by encouraging eating of nutiritious vegetables,” Gajo concluded. (CPG, PIA-4A with report from PIA-Quezon)
