TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan. 15 (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) region 2 has encouraged researches to study the knowledge, attitude, practices and extent of the use of agriculture chemicals among farmers.
Regional Director Grace Y. Ursua said the research plays a vital role in determining how knowledgeable the farmers are in the risks of using chemicals for their agricultural productions in relation to their health, as well as the environment.
Ursua ordered the Cagayan Valley-Occupational Safety and Health Network (CV-OSHNet) to look into possible researches to do the study or to tie up with the health related agencies, academe and private firms that can help pursue the research.
“Region 2 is an agricultural area so the safety and health of our farmers are our concerns. We need to check if they are really knowledgeable in using chemicals or do the chemicals they are using are really safe for the health of the people and the environment,” Ursua stated.
On the other hand, Hildegarda Hipolito, president of CV-OSHNet, said the network will tie up with the health department to check if there were related studies conducted in the past and also to link it with the state universities and colleges for the enhancement of the said research topic.
