Hospital soon to rise in Calayan Islandby Thelma C. Bicarme and Carolyn Tumamao
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Jan. 15 (PIA) — The island municipality of Calayan will soon have its own municipal hospital with the approval of the local government unit’s subproject proposal of P17 million loan budget for the said project through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Integrated Coastal Resources Management Project (DENR-ICRMP).
DENR 2 Regional Executive Director Benjamin Tumaliuan, during the ceremonial signing of the ICRMP sub-project financing agreement, said that Calayan is the first recipient of an infrastructure project facilitated by the ICRMP.
“The rest of the LGUs’ subproject proposal are still under evaluation and assessment by the ICRMP project management office,” Tumaliuan disclosed.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources officer Felix Taguba acknowledged the efforts of the LGU Calayan saying that the project is a big help in promoting and developing more the coastal and marine resources by having an improved social and environment facility in the locality as embodied in Component D of the ICRMP.
On the other hand, Director Rio Magpantay of the Department of Health region 2 also committed financial assistance to upgrade the quality of health services in the island municipality such as putting up of barangay health station in Camiguin of Calayan Island.
Magpantay also said the health department will be providing medicines and some technical assistance to Calayan.
Mayor Alfonso Llopis and Vice mayor Florencio de Guzman took turns in expressing their gratitude over the success of their municipality in gaining financial and technical assistance from the DENR and DOH as they assured their continued support to the environment and health programs of the government.
