by Maritess B. Beñas

BANGUED, Abra, Jan. 15(PIA) -- The National Statistics Office (NSO) is now halfway in its conduct of the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) in the province.

Evelyn B. Villastiqui, Statistical Coordination Officer and Acting District Statistical Officer of NSO-Bangued, reported that the RSBSA is being held in all the barangays in the province. The registration started on Jan.2 and will end on Jan. 24. The barangay captains, secretaries and personnel trained and hired by the NSO for the purpose organize the registration.

The RSBSA is an electronic device of compiling the basic information about farmers including their farm laborers or helpers as well as the fisher folks. These sectors in the agriculture industry are the target beneficiaries of the programs and services relative to agriculture.

The RSBSA specifically provides the information support needed by the support agencies such as the Department of Agriculture and Department of Agrarian Reform for technical assistance to farmers, NSO for databank requirements, Department of Interior and Local Government for mobilization of the local government units also for support and the Department of Budget and Management for fund allocation of the programs and projects that require bigger budgetary allocations.

Through the RSBSA, a computerized listing of the farmers engaged in rice production, corn, tobacco, vegetables and high value cash crops, including those engaged in livestock farming, poultry and fisheries, including those who are helping these farmers particularly the landless farm laborers.

The RSBSA also provides guidelines to the support agencies in the formulation of programs and activities that are needed in the promotion of farming technologies that aid the farmers in their economic development. (JDP/MTBB-PIA CAR, Abra)
