BSU Prez clarifies establishment of mall inside campus

by Lito Dar

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Jan. 15(PIA) -- Benguet State University (BSU) newly installed president Ben Ladilad clarified that the construction of a mall inside the campus is not a done deal, and has to be reviewed, discussed and confirmed by the Board of Regents.

According to Ladilad, there is a need to handle the issue carefully, taking into account the pros and cons of the project.

“I cannot understand why some people want the project in haste. We are not talking about a short-term project here, which is why we also need to consider its long-time effect,” Ladilad said.

He explained that there is an opposition from the community as there is an existing elementary school in the proposed site. The community is questioning the need to transfer the school and pushing the owner of the proposed mall for other options such as alternative site that BSU can offer.

“We always have to consider or take into account the interest of the university. We know that there is a need to generate funds for the university but we should not also sacrifice the intention why the BSU was created,” Ladilad stressed.

Ladilad just had his investiture as the fifth university president of BSU at the University Gym, Thursday, coinciding with BSU’s 26th Charter Day Anniversary which adopts the theme, ‘New Leadership, Accelerating the Development of BSU.’

The establishment and implementation of a comprehensive land use program is among the priorities of his administration. (JDP/LD-PIA CAR)
