Strong earthquake hits Northern Luzonby Freddie G. Lazaro
SINAIT, Ilocos Sur, Jan. 15 (PIA) -- An earthquake with a strength of 5.5 magnitude rocked Ilocos and Cagayan provinces early morning today but no damage was reported, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs Researcher Porferio De Peralta said the quake occurred at 12:36 a.m., Sunday with its epicenter located at 41 km northwest of Calayan, Cagayan with a depth of 1 km.
He said that intensity 5 was recorded in Calayan Island in Cagayan, intensity 4 in Camiguin Island and Calayan, Cagayan and intensity 3 in Laoag City and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte, Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez Mira, Ballesteros and Aparri in Cagayan, and Basco, Batanes.
