4Ps to cover all towns, cities in Cordillera

by Joseph B Zambrano

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 16 (PIA) -- All the 75 municipalities and two cities in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will be covered by the government’s biggest poverty reduction project Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program(4Ps) or the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) this year.

According to DSWD-CAR regional director Leonardo C. Reynoso, Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman has approved the region’s request for the inclusion of the remaining 12 municipalities that have not been covered by the program.

As a result, an additional 30,330 poor households will be covered by the CCT in the Cordillera this year bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 58,653, Reynoso bared.

The Pantawid Pamilya, which gives cash grants to poor households with compliance to health, education and nutrition conditions, has been implemented for almost four years now.

As a jumpstart to cover more poor households in the region, the Regional Project Management Office (RPMO) has been conducting orientation to local government units, local chief executives, and program partners from line agencies and non-government organizations that will help in the program implementation, he said.

Partner agencies from the Department of Health(DOH), Local Government Units (LGU) and Department of Education (DepEd) are currently attending training on the family development sessions for the Pantawid Pamilya parent beneficiaries, Reynoso said.

“This is a milestone in the poverty alleviation efforts of the government. Through partnership with the different line agencies, NGOs, CSOs and other sectors of the society, it is never impossible to succeed in helping our poor families”, Reynoso added

The 4Ps is one of the country’s banner programs implemented to help achieve five of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the international community to halve the poorest population around the world by 2015. *(JDP/JBZ -PIA CAR)
