3 more Bais City sitios 'energized' in 2011

by Rachelle M. Nessia

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 17 (PIA) -- Electric power has reached 3 more sitios in the hinterland areas of Bais City, Negros Oriental in 2011.

The city government of Bais appropriated about P3.5 million in 2011 for the electrification of its remote sitios, said Engr. Patricio Miaco, head of the Electrical Division in Bais City Engineer’s Office.

While 35 barangays in Bais City already have electricity, 60 percent of the sitios have yet to enjoy electric power.

Engr. Miaco said it installation of districution lines costs P2 million per kilometer from the poblacion area to the sitio.

“Most of these sitios are located so far from the poblacion area,” he said.

The Bais City government relies solely on its funds to power up its sitios.

“We make the design and facilitate the construction of the distribution lines, upon the approval of NORECO I,” added Miaco.

Bais City is under the coverage area of the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative I which is based in Bindoy town.

Earlier, Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III approved the release of funds worth P1.1 billion for the energization program of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) to provide power in far-flung areas in the country. (RMN/PIA Negros Oriental)
