DPWH to fast track P3.7-B worth of projects in EV for 2012
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan 18 (PIA) –- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Eastern Visayas will fast track the transparent implementation of infrastructure projects for 2012 in support to the Tuwid na Landas campaign of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.
DPWH-8 regional director Rolando M. Asis disclosed that for the year 2012, the office will get a regular budget of P3.7 billion.
In Region VIII, one of the priority projects being pursued during President Benigno "PNoy” Aquino’s term include the paving of the remaining 74.776 kilometers (km) primary arterial road with an estimated cost of P1.719848 billion; and 256.995 km secondary roads estimated to cost P7.630733 billion, 39.208 km of which have just been newly converted into national road.
The DPWH targeted that by year 2014, the paving of all primary roads will be completed.
Moreover, by the year 2016, the remaining 217.787 km unpaved secondary roads would have been completed.
Meanwhile, the 39.208 km newly converted national road is targeted to be completely paved after the year 2016.
It may be recalled that DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson has earlier declared that the Department’s goal is, “by 2016, the national road network of the country shall have an International Roughness Index (IRI) of 2.0 or below 3 to be at par with Malaysia road network.” (PIA 8)
