PIA Press Release Wednesday, January 18, 2012 DepEd seeks support of barangay officials in early school registrationby Pilar S. Mabaquiao SAN JOSE, Antique Jan 18 (PIA) -- The Department of Education is seeking the support of barangay officials for the early registration of students on January 28, 2012 for the coming school year. “Barangay officials play an important role in identifying out-of-school children and youth including those with difficulties who are also included in the early registration,” said Noel Gipal, Administrative Officer designate of DepEd, Division Antique. "Since the order was released," Gipal said, "we are on the double discussing strategies in our management conference on how to go about reaching all children even in remote barangays to be included for early registration." “We need all the children to be pre-registered so that we could make necessary interventions come opening of school year 2012-2013,” the source explained. Gipal also noted that Antique does not have much problem compared to other divisions in the urban centers and far-flung areas in Mindanao. Construction of school buildings and facilities is on going in some schools supported by either the fund from the Department of Education, local government units and the lone congressional district of the province, noted Gipal. In case there will be increase in enrollment, different schools in the province are more than willing to accommodate them, he disclosed. Student-teacher ratio is not a problem. In areas, where there are big enrollments, the local government units, (provincial and municipal) have provided teachers paid under the local school boards. With the participation of local officials, a massive advocacy campaign for early registration of the out-of-school children (OSC) and the out-of-school youth (OSY), including children and youth with difficulties and the regular pupils and students shall be undertaken to ensure all children are accounted for school year 2012-2013.
