CodamonLAGAWE, Ifugao, Jan. 18(PIA) -- Inspired by the increase of its local tax collections in 2011, the Provincial Treasurer Office(PTO) here is determined to further improve their local revenue generation efforts this year. Provincial treasurer Samuel Marinay bared that they are aiming to increase by 10-15 percent its local revenue collections. Last year, the PTO was able to raise its actual revenue collection of local taxes, fees, and charges by 14 percent of its target. To achieve this, he said that the office will conduct tax caravans and tax information campaign to at least six municipalities where there was low collection in local taxes last year. Door-to-door collections by tax collectors will also be instituted while the data bank of all professional, businesses and ,others for taxation purposes will be collated. Marinay also disclosed that the PTO will also conduct sale through public auction of some Ifugao Electric Cooperative's (IFELCO) real properties to settle its P6 million delinquent tax obligations. In addition, it will pursue the collection of franchise tax from the National Power Corporation, IFELCO and other big companies including the collection of national wealth tax from the National Irrigation Administration. For financial accountability and discipline, Marinay said that his office will conduct revenue audit and examination to all accountable officers at least twice a year, mandate the prompt submission of reports by the different offices through electronic statement of revenues and receipts concerning reports on check issued, report of disbursement, liquidation reports and pay creditors based on approved vouchers, prepare and issue checks on bills rendered and safeguard cash deficits to prevent cash shortage. To motivate and encourage taxpayers to promptly and honestly pay their taxes, plaque of recognition shall be also awarded to deserving taxpayers, according to Marinay. He also informed that in order to strengthen the capabilities of the staff in the Treasury Office, he will send all of them to attend at least one technical training program and on Computer Literacy Program.(JDP/DBC-PIA CAR,Ifugao) |
