DOLE Ifugao gets P3.7M for SPES, livelihood projects

LAGAWE, Ifugao, Jan. 18 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here recently bared it has an allotment of P3.7 million for two programs it will undertake this year.

Provincial Labor officer Alexander Gumabol disclosed that the DOLE -Ifugao Field Office has a budget of P2.7 million for the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) and P1 million for livelihood projects.

Under the SPES, indigent students are hired to work for a certain number of days to earn for their school needs. Their wages are handled by DOLE(60 percent) and the sponsoring local government unit/private partner institution(40 percent).

Gumabol reminded all concerned that all pledges and SPES memorandum of agreement with DOLE- Cordillera Administrative Region from local government unit employers should be submitted on or before January 30.

SPES application form must also be in triplicate and one advance copy to be submitted one month before the start of work and these forms will be given as soon as the pledges are submitted. He also informed that SPES qualifying examination is optional and in case the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) will conduct the examination, it will be administered only by the DOLE staff.

For livelihood projects, Gumabol said that of the P1 million fund, 20 percent is earmarked for individual livelihood formation and enhancement, 30 percent for rural group livelihood enhancement, and 50 percent for community based enterprise development.

The PESO agreed that the P0.5 million will be equally distributed to the 11 municipalities and the other P0.5 million will be allotted to community-based enterprise development on a first come, first served proposal.

The maximum amount to be allocated per individual for the individual and group livelihood formation and enhancement projects is P5,000 and the target priority beneficiaries are the marginalized and vulnerable individuals such as women, disabled, youth, displaced workers, returning overseas Filipino workers, and parents of child laborers.
