Thai PM visits Phl to strengthen bilateral tiesby Susan G. de Leon
MANILA, Jan. 18 (PIA) -- Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is set to visit the Philippines tomorrow, January 19 to exchange views with President Benigno Aquino IIII on bilateral and regional issues that are of mutual interest to both countries.
The visit is one of the highlights of the 63rd anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand, which is being commemorated this year.
President Aquino will receive the Prime Minister in the morning at the Malacañang Palace where the two leaders will discuss ways to ways to further strengthen the implementation of existing cooperation in the areas of energy, agriculture, defense, culture, education, combating drug trafficking and disaster risk reduction and management, among others.
They will also discuss matters which will bolster economic engagement between the Philippines and Thailand.
Perspectives on significant developments in ASEAN, including the issue of the West Philippine Sea (WPS) will also be shared by the two officials.
President Aquino will host a luncheon in honor of the Thai Prime Minister after the meeting. (DFA/RJB/SDL/PIA-NCR)
