Gulayan sa Paaralan to continue this school yearby Lito M. Giron
LUCENA CITY, Quezon, January 18 (PIA)-- Inspired by the big success of ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ project last year, the provincial government of Quezon and the Department of Education (DepEd) are once more implementing the project in all public elementary and secondary schools in the whole province beginning School Year (SY) 2012-2013 in June this year.
Provincial Agriculturist Roberto Gajo said they are now preparing the contest modules and plant materials for this program. Schools with exceptional vegetable garden will receive large amount of prizes from the provincial government.
The main objective of the contest, according to Gajo, is to teach school children in all public schools plant different varieties of vegetables for consumption of malnourished children in the school and sell others for extra income.
Governor David Suarez wants schoolchildren in the province to be healthier through nourishment of vegetables to make them intelligent and active in the school, Gajo said, adding the ultimate goal of the project is to lessen if not eventually eradicate malnutrition in the province.
Meanwhile, the provincial agriculture office will teach schoolchildren on the proper way of planting vegetables. (JMG, PIA-Quezon)
