PIA Press Release Thursday, January 19, 2012 Tapaznons give ‘first blood’ to Red Cross – Capiz in 2012ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- About 14 bags of 500 cc of blood were collected by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Capiz Chapter in its first bloodletting activity for 2012 last Jan. 17 at Barangay Carida in Tapaz town. PRC – Capiz administrator Nelia Cartujano said tehre 14 voluntary blood donors participated in the activity. She added that another mass blood donation will be conducted by the Chapter on Jan. 28. “If there are requests for blood letting, we respond to it,” she stressed, adding the chapter targets one percent of the province’s total population as blood donors for this year. Capiz has a total population of 701,664 based on National Statistics Office (NSO) – Capiz records in the August 2007 Census of Population and Housing. “We will organize Red Cross 143 teams in every brangay who will also be tapped in the voluntary blood donation,” she noted. Cartujano also took pride in the ongoing computerization of the Chapter’s blood registry for an automated database of blood donors in the province. The registry will store the blood donor's name, age, sex, address, blood type and contact numbers, among others for an easy access of blood-related information at the Chapter. The PRC’s blood donation services is in line with the Department of Health’s (DOH) National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP) which seeks to increase voluntary blood donors in preparation for the safe supply of blood on the expanding problem on dengue and other emergency blood needs.
