REGALA Project computerizes land assessment, increases Ilocos Norte incomeLAOAG CITY, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- A project that would simplify and fast-track real property tax assessment and increase revenue collection will be implemented in Ilocos Norte following the signing of a tripartite agreement on January 17, 2012.
The Revenue Generation and Land Administration Reforms (REGALA) Project will computerize all land information and real property tax assessment; and speed up inter-agency collaboration. The provincial government is the first to be selected for the implementation of the said project.
According to Eric Agustin of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Planning Office, the project is funded by the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction thru the Asian Development Bank.
“The grant to the Provincial Government is worth P4 million for the implementation of the project. This is for the acquisition of computer equipment, application of computer system and training of personnel,” Agustin said.
The initial REGALA Project sites are the towns of San Nicolas and Piddig.
“After the initial sites of the project, Governor Imee Marcos wants the computer system to be taught and used in other towns as well,” Agustin said.
As a result of the computerization of land information and tax assessment, revenue collection is expected to increase by up to 50 percent which in turn will be used for delivery of public services and anti-poverty programs. (CPC/PIA-1)
