Calapan intensifies its No-Plastic Day campaignby Louie T. Cueto
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- The city government strengthened its non-plastic day project by strictly implementing the ordinance which penalizes violators, said City Mayor Doy C. Leachon yesterday.
It will be recalled that last year, Calapeños were prohibited to use non-biodegradable plastic from Fridays to Sundays. Leachon said that instead of three days, the No-Plastic Day will now be implemented everyday throughout the year.
Leachon said most plastic bags eventually find their way into the waterways, parks, beaches and streets. On the other hand, if they are burned, they infuse the air with toxic fumes that are harmful to humans.
Thus, the city government prohibited the use of non-biodegradable plastics. (PIO/Louie T. Cueto/PIA/ MimaropaIVB)
