Calapan intensifies ‘Monthly Earth Hour’ program this yearby Louie T. Cueto
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Jan. 20 (PIA) -- The city information office is actively campaigning for public participation in the “Monthly Earth Hour,” which is a take-off from the global Earth Hour activity organized by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund), usually held every last week of March each year.
The city government recognizes the urgent need for communities to respond to global warming. Hence, they have launched a massive campaign to Calapeños, so they are encouraged to help save the Mother Earth by means of turning off their lights at home every last Friday of the month from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to reduce the use of power as well as gasoline or fuels.
Global warming is the rising of average temperature of earth’s atmosphere and people’s continuous abuse of using resources, as well as other related human activities like deforestation affects the condition of the earth. (LBR/LTC/PIA-4B/Calapan)
