DOH sets launching of flu immunization for indigent senior citizensTACLOBAN CITY Leyte, Jan 20 (PIA) –- The Department of Health Center for Health Development in Eastern Visayas is set to conduct the regional launching of Influenza and Pneumococcal Immunization for indigent senior citizens on January 30, 7:00 a.m. at Balyuan Tower in Tacloban City.
DOH Region 8 director Edgardo M. Gonzaga said that the program aims to make sure that even the poor citizens, in particular, the vulnerable senior citizens will be armed with flu and pneumococcal vaccines, free.
The indigent senior citizens or those 60 years old and above are encouraged to avail of the free immunization program of the DOH, Director Gonzaga added.
To get an immunization against influenza, one has to pay P1,500 while for a vaccination against pneumonia, one has to pay P3,000.
DOH has 14,948 available vials for pneumonia while 10,125 vials are ready to be given to the identified beneficiaries for influenza.
Based on the list provided them by the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, there are 54,180 senior citizens in the region, Gonzaga said.
The giving of free immunization to senior citizens by the DOH was due largely to the lobbying of the association of senior citizens in the country, Gonzaga said. (PIA 8)
