Zambales hospital gets P50-M equipment upgrade

IBA, Zambales Jan. 20 (PIA) Some P50 million worth of medical equipment were delivered last Tuesday at the President Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital in Iba town.

The equipment consists of a computed tomography (CT) scan machine, an ultrasound imager and an X-ray system.

In a press statement, Governor Hermogenes Ebdane said, “Zambaleños no longer need to travel to Manila or other provinces just to avail of CT-scan, X-ray or ultrasound imaging now that they can have such services at the provincial hospital here.”

Ebdane added that the project will help citizens save time, transportation and money expenses because the services are offered at lower costs.

The equipment were acquired at no cost to the government after Ebdane signed last September an agreement for equipment installation, operation and maintenance with the High Integrated Medical Engineering Exponent Corporation, Inc. (HIMEX), a distributor which has ties with manufacturers in Japan.

Under the agreement, HIMEX shall supply, deliver, install, commission and maintain one Hitachi Multi-Slice CT Scan Machine worth P35 million, one Hitachi Ultrasound Machine with elastography worth P8.7 million and one Hitachi Conventional X-Ray machine worth P6.5 million. It will also start the construction of the rooms to house the equipment.

Himex, as the partner firm, would provide the machines and maintain them in exchange for a 50 percent share in the service fees to be collected for the use of the equipment.

With the arrival of the medical equipment, Ebdane said that his dream for better health care is now being realized.

“We will install and test the equipment in the next few days, inaugurate them at the end of this month, and after that they will be available for the use of needy patients in our province,” he added.

The inauguration date of the upgrade will happen at the same day with the governor’s delivery of his annual State of the Province Address on Jan. 30.

On the same day, Ebdane will also inaugurate two other major projects that the governor has initiated. These two projects are the P49-million Carael road improvement project in the town of Botolan, and the P100-million Zambales Sports Center renovation and modernization project. (CLJD/AMV-PIA 3)
