Cavite officials join the 1st West Philippine Sea National Stakeholders’ confab

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite, Jan. 20 (PIA) -– Delegations from the provincial government led by the Office of the Governor (OPG) together with the offices of the Provincial Agriculture, environment and the Provincial Planning attended the two-day First West Philippine Seas National Stakeholders’ conference at the Richmonde Hotel at the Orchard Road, Eastwood City, Bagumbayan in Quezon City.

Said conference started yesterday and anchored on the so called “Seascape Conservation and Management with Local Government” to ensure that effective management practices by local governments are scaled-up at “seascape” level.

In letter address to Governor Jonvic Remulla, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) requested his office to prepare a 15-minute presentation on the status of integrated coastal management in the province and that the DENR partner; the Conservation International-Philippines shall provide details and guidance on the preparation of the said presentation.

The objectives of the said conferences are to present among others the importance for scaling-up local efforts along the West Philippine Sea (WPS), review the status and gaps in the implementation of Integrated Coastal Management in the provinces in the WPS, refine the vision statements for the WPS, identify transboundary issues and cross-cutting themes for scaling-up management intervention to a “Seascape” level, and develop an indicative action plan for the West Philippine Seascape development.
