Thousands of students and teachers to take part of Chinese New Year celebrationby Gideon C. Corgue
PAGADIAN CITY, Jan. 20 (PIA) –- More than thousand of students and teachers from public secondary and elementary schools ere expected to participate the Chinese New Year celebration on January 23.
City tourism officer-in-charge Judith Jugarap said 18 elementary schools and 2 secondary schools from the city division have confirmed their participation to the festivity upon the invitation from the Pagadian City Tourism Council.
Jugarap said students who will wear blue, red, yellow and white colored dresses will participate in the field demonstration on Friday, 1:30 pm at Plaza Luz here.
Jugarap said the City Tourism Council have agreed that activities for the Chinese New Year will be held on January 22.
At 4:30 in the afternoon, Jugarap said a food festival will also be held where 20 temporary food stalls will be installed by the Pagadian City Association of Hotels and Restaurants (PCAHR) . “A sumptuous Chinese cuisine will be prepared and displayed to offer an opportunity for the people to get a good taste of Chinese at an affordable price,” Jugarap added.
At 6:00 pm, a formal program will be conducted at the Taclobo stage where Filipino-Chinese students will perform Chinese dances which depicts their own culture. “ The Dragon and Lion dance and a dance number from the City Tourism Council will also be presented during the program,” Jugarap added.
Jugarap said it is only under the administration of Mayor Samuel Co where Chinese New Year is celebrated regularly.
The Filipino-Chinese community such as the Pagadian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and others will actively take part in festive celebration. (JPA/GCC/PIA9-Pagadian)
