PhilHealth sponsored program covers 122,831 poor Capiceño familiesby Alex A. Lumaque
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 20 (PIA6) – A total of 122,831 poor Capiceño families are covered by the National Health Insurance Program’s (NHIP) sponsored component program.
Based on PhilHealth – Capiz records, the national and provincial government have sponsored 36,618 and 36,565 families, respectively, while the various municipalities and a congressional office have registered 49,132 families for the program.
Also included in the total beneficiaries are the 516 families directly paid by three barangays who have a Memorandum of Agreement with PhilHealth.
In a press release, PhilHealth has formally announced the continuing coverage of poor Capiceño families for 2012 until December 2013 especially the poorest of the poor families identified in the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR).
The two-year free health insurance coverage came after the signing of the General Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2012 (Republic Act 10155) allocating funds for the national government subsidy for the health insurance premiums of poor families under the NHTS-PR.
This is also pursuant to PhilHealth Board Resolution No. 1571, s – 2011, which extends the coverage of the concerned families under the NHIP’s program.
The health insurance benefits will ensure the ID holders and members of their families, discounts in hospitalization expenses that include medicines, doctor’s fee, laboratory examinations and other related expenses. (AAL/PIA 6 Capiz)
