Surigao Norte gov to build reading hubs per municipalitySURIGAO CITY, Jan. 21 (PIA) -- The province of Surigao del Norte is bent on constructing additional reading hubs in every municipality to help the pupils learn to read effectively.
Gov. Sol Matugas, during the recently held local school board meeting, said she is now pushing for the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension in the entire province by constructing more reading hubs that will become the center of activity for students, teachers and researchers who want to sharpen and widen their knowledge.
“It will also develop their reading habits, improve their learning skills and can help in reducing illiteracy in the process,” she said.
The said reading hub is also equipped with speech laboratory, it was learned.
Also, the lady governor vowed to strengthen other programs of the Department of Education such as the Alternative Learning System (ALS), the Parents Literacy/Livelihood Program in schools, Radio-based Instruction, Indigenous People Education Program, Balik Paaralan Para sa Out-of-School Adult, Education Behind Bars, Comprehensive Barangay Development Program, Barangayan and Literacy cum Livelihood.
She also commended the initiative of Del Carmen mayor Alfredo ‘JR’ Coro for putting up the ‘Kariton library’ where students can have the opportunity to read their favorite reading materials via the mobile library. (Provincial Information Center/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
