PIA Press Release Saturday, January 21, 2012 DOST 4A laboratory earns ISO certificationLOS BANOS, Laguna January 21 (PIA) -- Science and Technology Undersecretary for Regional Operations Carol M. Yarobe, together with Batangas 2nd District Rep. Hermilando I. Mandanas, will lead the recognition for international standards accreditation of a service laboratory of DOST IV-A January 31, in this town.To receive the ISO/IEC 17025 certificate for Regional Volumetric Calibration Laboratory is Felina C. Malabanan, S&T director of the provincial S&T center in Batangas and quality manager of the Regional Volumetric Calibration Laboratory (RVCL). In addition, Lyn F. Aggangan, laboratory head, and Brigido K. Cassanova Jr., calibration analyst, will also receive certificates as RVCL's approved signatories. RVCL is credited to be the first big volume calibration laboratory in the Philippines Accreditation Office (PAO), a line agency of the trade and industry department. ISO refers to the International Organization for Standardization, an international group of experts that sets world standards for technology. Each standard has a unique number. ISO/IEC 17025 is an international standard that assesses the technical competency of laboratories. The scope of accreditation received by RVCL covers calibration services for 10 to 20-liter calibrating bucket, 100 to 2,000-liter proving tanks; 250 to 4,000-liter proving tanks; and vehicle tanks and trailer trucks which have capacity of up to 40,000 liters. RVCL, based at the Provincial S&T Center in Kumintang Ilaya, Batangas City, was established and started operations in November 2003. It has provided for eight years some 2,300 calibration services for 1,700 customers and collected P2.5 million in fees and charges. Considered by DOST CALABARZON as a self-sustaining laboratory, RVCL services customers from other regions such as oil and gas depot in Palawan, as well as other petroleum firms in Occidental and Oriental Mindoro.
