BIR-Soccsksargen exceeds 2011 collection by 6.1%

KORONADAL CITY, Jan. 23 (PIA) -- Soccsksargen Region’s Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) , Revenue Region No. 18 based here, reported that it collected P 4,420,940,992 from January to December 2011.

Describing the collection a “splendid performance”, BIR Regional Director Rozil R. Lozares said the amount is P254.09 M or 6.1 percent higher than their annual target of P4,166,853,000.

Lozares credited the achievement to the utmost effort of the five revenue districts in the entire region 12.

Soccsksargen Region covers the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and North Cotabato and the cities of Cotabato, Kidapawan, Tacurong, Koronadal, and General Santos. However, Maguindanao Province, which is under the Automous Region in Muslim Mindanao is also covered by BIR RR. No. 18 as part of the district office in Cotabato City.

Of the five revenue districts in the region, Sultan Kudarat and Sultan Kudarat Province (RR No. 109) led in the biggest percentage increase in collection against target.

It collected P664,690,794.03, which is P122,145,794.03 or 22.51% higher than the P542,545,000 for 2011.

Despite experiencing major flooding this year, Cotabato City and Maguindanao province contributed one of the biggest tax collections: P1,174,804,351.04 against goal of P 1,065,476,000.00 (an excess of 10.26%)

Although Koronadal City and South Cotabato (RD No. 111) came out short by P45,171,428.53 of its December 2011 target, it still managed a surplus of P35,496,943.99 (4.415) as compared to its annual target of P840,008,943.99.

Kidapawan City and North Cotabato (RD No. 108) amassed P522,768,870.18 against its goal of P504,942,000.00, an excess of P17,826,870.18 (3.53%)

Of the five revenue districts in the region, only General Santos City and Sarangani Province (RD No. 110) fell short of the annual goal.

It only collected P1,218,668,032.76; its 2011 target was P1,249,378,000.00, which was a deficit of P30,709,967.24 (2.46%)

Director Lozares also noted that the total collection in Soccsksargen Region in 2011 was P646,901,771.80 (17.14%) higher compared to the 2010 tax collection.

Despite excess in collection this year, Director Lozares has reminded revenue collectors to double the efforts to collect taxes for the government this year.

He believes they will be able to meet this year’s target collection of P5,126,213,000. (PIA-12)
