Under the second phase, the agency will distribute again thousands of kits to the elementary and high schools in different municipalities in the region, following the reports that some dengue cases recorded were acquired by the victims inside their school campuses posing serious problem considering the number of students who can be infected with the virus once it is transferred to them. Regional director Urdujah Tejada stated that DOST will also conduct seminars for teachers in some selected schools on the use of the ovi trap and also to provide information on how to keep the school campus free from dengue-carrying mosquitoes. The school administrators will also be tapped to help monitor the project. In previous years, DOST has distributed 11, 200 ovi trap kits to some households especially in thickly populated areas which had records of dengue casualties. Ovi trap is a tool that attracts female mosquitoes or the aedes aegypti and traps and kills the resulting larvae.(TCB/OTB/PIA-2) |
