TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan 23(PIA)-- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Cagayan continuously encourages more Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) entrepreneurs to actively participate to science and technology’s flagship program - the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SET-UP).

This program aims to increase productivity and competitiveness of various businesses within the DOST identified sector, and to provide livelihood and employment to the people.

Dr. Teresita A. Tabaog, provincial director, said that SET-UP enhances skills of entrepreneurs on SMEs especially on food processing, furniture, gifts and household decors, aquaculture, aquamarine, horticulture, information and computer technology, and metals and engineering.

“The program enables firms to address their technical concerns through innovation support systems technology, trainings, consultancy, services, packaging and labeling as well as laboratory services,” Tabaog said.

Dr. Tabaog also shared that based on her dissertation study in 2010, majority of the SET-UP beneficiaries have ventured into furniture with 22 percent, followed by aquamarine and aquaculture sector with 19 percent, metals and engineering with 12 percent, GHD with 3 percent and holticulture with 7 percent.

She also said that the special focus is given to the High Impact Program (HIP) on coconut based production for the province of Cagayan to provide additional income generating activities for the farmers in North Western Cagayan (NORWESCA).

Clients that are interested to avail of the SET-UP program are advised to visit the nearest Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs) ) in their areas. (TCB/MNF/OTB/PIA2
