510 beneficiaries of 4Ps to be hired for roadside maintenanceby Oliver Baccay
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan 23 (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has tied up with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to tap beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) for the national highways’ repair and maintenance; a convergence initiative and poverty alleviation program of the government.
Based on a memorandum of agreement between the two offices, some 510 pantawid pamilya beneficiaries will be hired to do the repair and maintenance, and help in the rehabilitation of the national roads and bridges in the region.
Engr. Amado Martinez, chief of the maintenance division, stated that the project aims not only to provide employment opportunity to the marginalized sector but also to develop and enhance their skills and capabilities which they can utilize for a better job opportunity in the future.
He specified that the project further formulates an institutional arrangement between the two agencies in collaboration with the local government units (LGUs) and the beneficiaries as a strategy to provide the beneficiaries skills which can they use when 4Ps program ends.
Each worker will be deployed in a 3. 5 kilometers length for roadside maintenance project. Each of the beneficiaries will be paid based on the average minimum rate per day in the regions provided by the labor department which is P250.
A rigid monitoring and evaluation scheme will be applied to ensure that the beneficiaries are safe in their workplaces and that they really perform their duties and responsibilities well. (TCB/OTB/PIA-2)
