Barangay employment service offices in Palawan created to protect laborPUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Jan. 23 (PIA) -- The approval of a provincial ordinance which establishes Barangay Employment Service Office or (BESO) in the 367 barangays in Palawan will provide effective mechanisms for protection of labor from illegal recruitment and the promotion of its welfare.
Provincial Ordinance 1234 principally authored by Board Member Ramon Zabala was approved in the last quarter of 2011.
The Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) will implement the ordinance and shall act as the supervising agency over the BESOs.
The approval of the ordinance is considered well timed with the proliferation of unregulated posting of job opportunities and employment ads for local and international hiring.
The ordinance mentioned that these unregulated ads may be one of the means illegal recruiters or bogus employers use to deceive job seekers and to exact money from them.
Specifically, Section 10 of the ordinance states that no job opportunities or employment ads shall be posted within the province unless authenticated by the PESO.
The ordinance also states that no employment ads shall be posted in electric posts, trees, public structures not designated by the PESO.
Section XIII specifies media prohibition stipulating that no radio station or publication of whatever form within the province shall announce or print job opportunities ads without authentication made by the PESO.(DOS/VSM/PIA-Palawan)
