Private sector rep urges health department to invest on healthy lifestyle programsby Oliver Baccay
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- A private sector representative of the Regional Development Council (RDC) region 2 has urged the health department to invest more on healthy lifestyle programs and initiatives to prevent health complications.
Ronald Barnacha, environment sector representative, said the projects of the government on hospital upgradings and investments for medicines and other equipments and facilities should be complemented with programs to combat illnesses and diseases the natural way.
Barnacha said more programs to educate and train people to have a healthy lifestyle should be institutionalized to lessen the number of individuals that are hospitalized.
“We really appreciate the effort of the government in spending so much for health programs but we also want to see some efforts to help eradicate the increasing trend of mortality through healthy lifestyle programs that are institutionalized,” Barnacha said.
Barnacha said this after seeing the report of the Department of Health (DOH) region 2 on upgrading 20 hospitals regionwide this year, amounting to P106 million. The upgrading project is part of the government’s thrust to enhance the hospital facilities for better service to sick individuals.
He said he supports the government’s hospital upgrading program, but there is also a need to initiate programs that will promote a healthy lifestyle. (TCB/OTB/PIA-2)
