DOST to boost geotextile productionby Oliver Baccay
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)- Cagayan has tied up with Cagayan State University (CSU)-Sanchez Mira to further boost the production of its geotextile project.
Geotextile project is a product from coconut husks dubbed as “Coconet” which can be utilize as a support net to avoid soil erosions, especially in the landslide prone areas in the highways.
Teresita Tabaog, provincial director, said they have started conducting training the faculty and students of CSU for the mass production of the coconet which would serven as an additional livelihood and income generating source for the school and the students.
The products, she said, is now being utilized by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to prevent soil erosions in some national highways in the province which were identified as landslide prone areas.
DOST is also set to train the coconut farmers to produce the coconet.(TCB/OTB/PIA-2)
