DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- Barangay officials and military personnel have joined hands in a clean-up drive to clear the eroded soil due to heavy floods brought by tropical storm Sendong in Tanjay City.
The large part of the Tambacan Elementary School ground at Barangay 4, Tanjay City was washed out by Sendong.
According to the Army 302nd Brigade Information Officer, Capt. Anacito Naz, members of 302 Brigade provides manpower assistance to help barangay officials in cleaning up the school surroundings.
The school children found it difficult to move around the school due to the presence of potholes, said Capt. Naz.
The school principal, Laraine Ariza asked the assistance from the army to clean the deposits of slippery mud in the cemented ground to prevent children from having accidents during rainy days.
“The ‘Bayanihan System’ with the Army, barangay officials and residents from the area made the clean-up operations successful,” said the army official.
Capt. Naz added this shows that the Bayanihan spirit among the Filipino people plays a vital role in achieving a physically and psychologically secured community that is conducive for development. (mbcn/jct/PIA-Negros Oriental)
