Capiz water district defers rate hikeBy Jemin B. Guillermo
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 25 (PIA6) – The Metro Roxas Water District will defer the implementation of the 10-percent water rate hike until next month.
The announcement was made despite earlier approval of the water rate hike earlier to give consideration to the public especially since it is the beginning of the new year, said information officer Dante Arcangeles, quoting MRWD General Manager Engr. Gonzalo Glen Delgado.
According to Arcangeles, the Board of Trustees of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) has approved the proposed the water rate increase last January 3, 2012 per Board Resolution No. 04.
“The new water rates are set to be initially applied by MRWD to the February 2012 consumption of its water concessionaires and will eventually be reflected in the March 2012 billing,” Arcangeles stressed.
On the other hand, Delgado explained that the water rates adjustment is very reasonable amidst the constantly increasing costs of power, chemicals, fuels, repairs and other necessary expenses that are needed in the efficient daily operation and maintenance of the water service facilities.
“For two years, MRWD has not increased its water rates,” Delgado said, stressing that the increase this year is not that high if converted into peso as the minimum charge in a 10-cubic meter consumption last year is equivalent to P208.10 and the new rate this February will only be P229 or a 70 centavos increase per day.
He assured Capiceños to continuously enjoy sufficient round the clock supply of safe drinking water that passed the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water. (JCM/JBG/PIA6-Capiz)
