400 athletes leave for EVRAA in Maasin, Leyte

By Alice Nicart

BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar, January 25 (PIA) -- Following their month-long training which tested their endurance and increased their athletic skills, about 400 young boys and girls composing the Eastern Samar Athletic Association (ESAA) left today for the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) meet in Maasin, Southern Leyte.

Schools Division Superintendent Bernado “Boyet” Adina informed that the athletes boarded in eight big buses and a truck for their cooking wares and other utensils.

The DepEd Division Head expressed optimism that with the training the athletes all underwent, the Division will have a better performance in Maasin meet.

He said that the athletes trained in the grounds of the Dolores Central School, where the town’s mayor, Emiliana Villacarillo extended her full support.

Aside from Mayor Villacarillo, Supt. Adina is also thankful to Mayor Fe Abunda of Borongan City, who shelled out some P100,000 for the athletes.

“With their donations, it was not hard for us to buy the P350,000 worth of medicines and first-aid kits and other athletic supplies which they did not have before.” Supt. Adina added.

Among the mayors who donated either P10,000 or P20,000 each follow: Mayor Conrado U. Nicart III (San Policarpo); Mayor Roland Evardone(Arteche); Mayor Alicia Cesista(Can-avid); Acting Mayor Diego Lim (Taft); Mayor Delia Monleon (Jipapad); Mayor Gigi Zacate(Sulat); Mayor Henry Afable(Maydolong); Mayor Tito Codoy(Llorente); Mayor Edgar Boco(Hernani); Mayor Jaime Ty(McArthur); Mayor Nedito Campo (Quinapundan) and Mayor Candida Gabornes(Lawaan). The rest of them have likewise pledged support and they are expected to grace the opening ceremony of the EVRAA in Maasin.(PIA-8 )
