People should care for weather monitoring instruments says DOST officialby Elsa S. Subong
ILOILO CITY, Jan. 25 (PIA6) -- An official of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said that people should be educated on how weather monitoring systems can save lives during disasters.
“They should be educated on the use and services of the instruments, and its importance in saving lives, otherwise, they may tend to destroy them,” DOST Regional Director Rowen Gelonga said.
Turnover rites of weather systems was in Alimodian town. The system includes an automatic rain gauge and automatic water level sensor which is seen to enhance the capacity of Pagasa in getting timely and accurate weather forecasts.
Smart Communications has donated a total of five automated rain gauges (ARGs) while the three automated water level sensors are installed in river traversing the towns of Maasin, San Miguel, Sta. Barbara, Alimodian, and Pavia all the way to Iloilo City.
Alimodian Mayor Juanito Alipao, who is also the chairperson of the Tigum-Aganan Watershed Management Board, expressed his gratitude to the Department of Science and Technology and Smart Communications for the installation of the weather devices. He also assured that the devices will be safeguarded in the area. (RDA/ESS/PIA-Iloilo)
