PNoy underscores 'bayanihan' among ‘Sendong’ victimsby Jorie C. Valcorza
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, Jan. 25 (PIA) -- President Aquino, during his visit today in Lumbia resettlement area, underscored the spirit of “bayanihan” among families displaced by tropical storm Sendong.
The President said that in the midst of crisis, everybody must work hand in hand to prepare for natural disasters.
Aquino further noted that cooperation can hasten the recovery process. He added that success also relies on people’s cooperation.
The Lumbia relocation site is a five-hectare property donated by Xavier University and is now holding some 150 tents provided by the European Union (EU) through Red Cross.
Other 12 transitional houses/bunkhouses will be built along the tents. It has ten rooms and accommodates one family per room.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) will also build some 230 bunkhouses, one for every family and just today, some 40 families received the houses for the symbolic commemoration of the 40th day after the occurrence of typhoon Sendong.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has turned over more than P7-million fund to the 52’nd Brigade of the Armed Forces who will take charge of the construction in the site. (PIA 10/Jorie C. Valcorza)
