Red Cross Kalinga assures adequate, safe bloodby Larry Lopez
TABUK, Kalinga, Jan. 26 (PIA) -- The local chapter of Red Cross has assured the people in this province adequate, safe and accessible blood for 2012.
Teresa Bagayao of PRC-Kalinga chapter said they conducted the first blood letting activity for this year last January 19 at Barangay Casigayan, Tabuk with blood donors composed of barangay officials and volunteer residents.
After every blood donation, the PRC brings the blood units for screening at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) in Tuguegrao to assure safe blood to the public.
Since the Red Cross blood bank opened, several years ago, there has been no case ever of any blood-borne infection reported because of this standard operating procedure.
Seeing the crucial contribution of its blood bank, in line with its blood services, the chapter Board of Directors approved the conduct of series of blood letting campaign for this year.
Next month, another blood donation has been organized by the chapter with municipal officials and volunteer donors in Tinglayan municipality.
Last year, through the assistance of local government units, military, police and other organizations, the chapter conducted 13 blood donation projects.
Bagayao said the chapter will launch massive information campaign this year with the aim of exceeding their performance last year as she called on potential donors to share blood to save other’s lives. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
