Bontoc General Hospital serves 36,380 patientsby Juliet Saley
BONTOC, Mt. Province, Jan. 26 (PIA) -- The Bontoc General Hospital has served a total of 36,380 patients both from the outpatient department (OPD) and the emergency room (ER) and with a total admissions of 6,212 patients last year.
This was reported by Provincial Health Officer Dr.Nenita Lizardo during the Provincial Health Board meeting.
The hospital has also conducted surgical operations to a total of 2,126 patients. Of the total operations conducted, 565 are major including caesarian operation and 1,561 are minor operations.
Based on the data presented by Lizardo, the ten leading causes of discharges (morbidity) include pneumonia, gastroenteritis, hypertension, typhoid fever, bronchitis, gastritis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, diabetes mellitus, and influenza.
The data also showed 46 deaths for 2011. Of the total, 16 are reported as fetal death/stillbirths, four each for neonatal deaths and infant death. The ten leading causes of death (mortality) of the other reported deaths are disease of heart, pneumonia,hypertension, injury, diabetes mellitus, peptic ulcer, prematurity, infections, burns, and liver cirrhosis.
The hospital has attended to some 199 referrals from other hospitals and 208 from Rural Health Units (RHUs). It has also referred some of its patients to
other health facilities outside the province mostly for CT scan and orthopedic consultation.
The Bontoc General Hospital, which is under the management of the provincial government, not only serves the people of Mt. Province but nearby towns of Kalinga and Ifugao.(JDP/JBS-PIA CAR,Mt. Province)
