OFW contribution deadline extended –-SSSby Phres A. Evardone
QUEZON CITY, Jan. 26 (PIA) -- The Social Security System (SSS) implemented a deadline extension for our Overseas Filipino Workers’ (OFW) contribution remittance as recognition to the difficulties confronting our OFWs in remitting their SSS contributions.
Joy Villacorta, Head of OFW Management of the Social Security System (SSS), said that they have implemented this deadline extension since 2005 to provide an opportunity for OFWs to pay and avoid delays in the remittance of their contributions.
Villacorta said OFWs can pay their 1st to 3rd quarter contributions anytime within the year and the deadline is up until December. Meanwhile, they can pay their 4th quarter contributions until January 31st of the succeeding year.
Villacorta added that this (deadline extension) would spare OFWs from the inconvenience of going regularly to the remittance centers and would also allow them to pay their contributions on time.
SSS also implemented a number–coding scheme in determining the deadline for contribution payments for local voluntary-paying members. Under this scheme, the last digit of the member’s social security number will serve as the deadline for his/her contribution payments.
Villacorta was the guest at the program Talking Points. This program is aired over PTV4 and Radio ng Bayan nationwide.(PAE/PIA-GHQ)
